Repatriation Process
Bringing Loved Ones Home with Care, Dignity and Clarity
At North of England International Repatriation Services, we understand that when a loved one passes away — whether in the UK or abroad — the thought of international repatriation can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ve built our service around clarity, compassion, and one-to-one support at every stage.
With years of experience and a trusted global network, we manage the full repatriation process from start to finish — whether you are bringing someone into the UK, or arranging for them to be returned home from the UK.
Outbound Repatriation – From the UK to Anywhere in the World
If your loved one has passed away in the UK and needs to be returned to their home country, we handle the entire repatriation with care and precision.
Our Outbound Process – Step by Step:
Step 1: Initial Contact
Call us 24/7 on 0113 322 7135 or email enquiries@neirs.co.uk. We’ll gather the details we need and explain exactly what to expect.
Step 2: Legal Documentation
We assist with or obtain:
- The death certificate (x2)
- The deceased’s passport or ID card
- Out of England certificate from the local Coroner
- Free From Infection certificate from the hospital
We also provide translations, Apostilles (legalisation), and support with embassy/consulate requirements, if applicable.
Step 3: Preparation & Embalming
The deceased is respectfully brought into our care. Embalming and preparation are carried out to international standards, and a zinc-lined repatriation coffin is provided if required by law.
Step 4: Flight Booking & Coordination
We arrange all travel logistics, including:
- Flight booking with approved carriers
- Custom clearance and documentation
- Coordination with the receiving funeral director abroad
You will be informed of all arrangements and updated throughout the process.
Inbound Repatriation – To the UK from Abroad
If a loved one has died abroad and you need to bring them home to the UK, our inbound repatriation team will handle all international arrangements to ensure their return is managed with dignity and efficiency.
Our Inbound Process – Step by Step:
Step 1: Immediate Advice
We will advise you on what to do first — from registering the death locally, to coordinating with embassies or funeral homes abroad.
Step 2: Coordination with Overseas Providers
We work directly with trusted international funeral directors to:
- Collect the deceased
- Complete local documentation
- Obtain necessary permits
- Arrange embalming and flight preparation
Step 3: Transport to the UK
Once permissions and flight details are confirmed, we manage the return of your loved one to any airport in the UK.
Step 4: Reception and Delivery
We collect the deceased upon arrival and deliver them to your chosen UK funeral director, family home, or place of rest.
